Psychotherapist

Hello! I’m Allison and I work with individual teens and adults, couples, and families on a wide range of issues and concerns. My approach to therapy is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative. I consider myself a relational therapist, because I believe we are all best understood in the context of our relationships to others, including those early attachments and family dynamics that shape us all. I see the relationship between therapist and client as a vital form of human connection and vehicle for healing.

I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, problems with relationships, grief and loss, challenges with parenting or family dynamics, trauma, and life transitions. My style is relaxed, genuine, compassionate, and direct. You can count on me for careful listening and deep understanding, along with steady encouragement, as you work toward meaningful and lasting change.

As someone who has raised three children, navigated major life changes and transitions, and wrestled with many difficult questions and choices, I bring a lot of lived experience into the therapy room—along with a lively sense of humor. I worked previously as an editor, and I am still endlessly fascinated by language and the beautiful, messy project of communication. This interest greatly informs my approach and focus as a therapist. I will help you to understand and overcome the barriers to good communication in your relationships.

I believe wholeheartedly in the power of emotional experiences for connecting and healing. To that end, I bring my full self into relationships with clients, including genuine expressions of feeling. Clients experience me as a committed ally and companion as they navigate life’s joys and stresses. I also see people as creative, resilient, and wired naturally for growth. Drawing on your strengths and insights and the secure foundation of our relationship, I will help you take small steps forward and experiment with new ways of being.

My practice is committed to inclusivity and holistic consideration of different cultures, identities, and values. If we decide to work together, we will develop a treatment plan that reflects all aspects of who you are, along with your unique goals and needs and what I can provide to support them. I’m honored to be considered as a resource as you navigate growth and change and am happy to offer a free initial consultation to see if we’d be a good fit!
