Amie Shipley, MSW, LMHC

Psychotherapist and Clinical Social Worker

I am a mental health therapist and I also see myself as a teacher, a coach, and a source of support to those I work with. As we make our way through life we often come up against challenges that we aren’t taught how to handle. Maybe you had effective modeling from a parent or trusted adult along the way and maybe you’ve felt more on your own in figuring out how to handle life’s difficult situations. I understand, have been there in my own way, and value the connection and growth that can come through the therapy process.

My philosophy is that all clients I work with are the experts of their own experience and come to me with many strengths. And that even with these strengths and expertise, for many good reasons, they may feel stuck and are in need of support to develop a greater level of satisfaction, contentment, and joy in their lives. I work together with clients to understand their perspective, their history, their personalities, and their guiding values and inner experience. Along the way I partner with them to work in a way that most effectively targets what is getting in the way of the life they most want for themselves. My approach is collaborative and eclectic - I incorporate many therapeutic approaches to identify what may resonate and work best for each person's individual needs.

I graduated with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Washington and it is important to me to understand a person in the context of their family, cultural, and community background. I use she/her pronouns and identify and a cis gender queer female.

I work with teenagers and adults in healing from complex trauma and learning how they can support and at times reparent themselves. I utilize many therapeutic modalities and enjoy a focus on in depth healing and transformation. I believe deeply in the power of relationships and connection and am grateful to be able to learn alongside my clients as I support their increased capacity and vibrant life energy. Big real laughter is my favorite thing in the world and when I’m not working I’m cuddling with my dog, getting outside as much as possible, writing, crafting, working on learning guitar, thrifting, traveling, and spending time with my husband and teenage step daughter.
