Jackie Abeling, MA, LMFT
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist; Clinical Supervisor; Body Trust® Certified
Hi, I’m Jackie (she/her)! I’m a therapist, clinical supervisor, and owner of Embodied Journeys Psychotherapy which specializes in recovering from the effects of diet culture, understanding and embracing neurodiversity, and releasing from perfectionist thinking. I aim to help people recognize, reject, and release themselves from the broader oppressive systems–diet culture, ableism, antiblackness, capitalism, and white supremacy–that keep us stuck, hustling, overwhelmed, and deeply unhappy. I help people find compassion for themselves and learn to live life on their own terms!
I am an imperfect, neurodivergent white lady who is guided by black and Indigenous, queer, fat, disabled, feminist teachers, and I am deeply committed to liberation practices–both personally and professionally. I came into this work in solidarity with a family member who was deeply engaged in disordered eating and trapped in a life that was not of their own making but of the expectations of others. I further came to recognize many of my own struggles were due to holding ableist beliefs when it turns out I have ADHD. Embodying a practice of liberation, recognizing when we're holding ourselves to impossible–yet deliberate–societal standards, and developing a deep and compassionate understanding of ourselves is just one step in getting free.
As a Certified Body Trust® Provider, I work with adults and adolescents (16+) who desire to improve their relationship with food, their body, and movement. Often traits like high achievement, perfectionism, procrastination, rigid thinking, and self-depreciation accompany body dissatisfaction, and these are traits that many ADHD/AuDHD-ers hold as well. I work with clients–and Associates in supervision–to explore these aspects through a lens of freedom and liberation.

“And I said to my body. Softly.
‘I want to be your friend.’
It took a long breath.
And replied,
‘I have been waiting my whole life for this.’”
