James Knowlton, LMFTA
Psychotherapist
Hello! My name is James, I am non-binary and use they / them pronouns.
I specialize in relational dynamics and conflict, as well as developmental and intergenerational trauma. I work from a holistic lens and offer diverse interventions that include cognitive, emotional, and somatic practices. With these practices you can disrupt unhealthy patterns and improve communication in your relationships. While I am open to working with everyone, I have an affinity toward LGBTQ+ and neuro-divergent individuals. I enjoy parent coaching and working with teenagers as well as couples. I see individuals as well as groups: roommates, colleagues, band-mates, etc. are all encouraged to seek mediation.
As an anti-oppression centered healer, I have multiple sliding scale spots. I hope to remove barriers to access mental and emotional health resources.
I am happy to work with people on many spectrums, from different fields, those seeking clarity and more resilience, or simply comfort. I hope to meet you wherever you are in your process and identity. Together we can work and play towards the change you want and need.
I have completed all necessary coursework for a Master of Arts in Couples and Family Therapy at Antioch University Seattle, I am currently a Licensed Associate Therapist.
I have completed a 33-hr. Paraprofessional Intimate Partner Violence & Anti-Oppression training with Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Non-Violence. I have worked with couples in IPV as well as seeking reproductive support. Additionally, I have supported at-risk teens who have endured justice system trauma and/or houselessness. Lastly, I worked as a preschool teacher for close to four years and have studied Childhood & Adult Development extensively.
I have a Masters of Fine Arts in Visual Studies which informs my healing work. My Bachelor’s degree is in Humanistic & Transpersonal Psychology from Naropa University, with a minor in Contemplative Education.
