Psychotherapist

You feel trapped in an emotional upheaval.

When you read a line of poetry like this by David Whyte (What to Remember When Waking), “You are not a troubled guest on this earth, you are not an accident amidst other accidents,” many feelings get stirred up. You feel hope and longing, but there’s distrust because you have felt like a troubled guest or an accident to be made right.

It is not unusual to experience life as a burden. Still, it can be pervasive for someone who did not receive sufficient modeling and help to develop the ability to work with difficult emotions: fear, anger, shame, and sadness.

You’ve likely already done some hard work to get here – trying to develop better coping strategies, introducing self-care practices, deepening your understanding of mental health–but you’re still stuck in unchangeable dynamics.

You are not here by accident at this threshold of discovery. Your life unfolds like a story, which now seems to be written in a very foreign language. Often, the story expresses itself as symptoms like depression, anxiety, issues in relationships, confusion about identity, addiction, and myriad other ways.

Understanding some emotions requires exploration of the unconscious.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on unconscious thoughts and feelings that shape behaviors and emotional states.

Exploring the impact of early and current relationships on a person’s sense of self and well-being, it uses the interaction between client and therapist to help clients understand patterns in all their relationships.

Long-standing issues that never reach a comfortable resolution are often best addressed in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Working with me, a therapist trained in this method, can help you understand the story your life is telling and deepen your relationship to the fullness of your emotional experience.

Take this opportunity to learn how to live your life!

You’ve felt the need to simplify yourself because you haven’t been able to relate to the full complexity of your experience.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy works not to “fix” the problems you’re experiencing but to expand your ability to be fully alive to whatever your life brings you.
