Counselor and Drama Therapist

Hi! I’m Véro (she/her). In my work as a counselor and drama therapist, I engage with the rich creativity of my clients to explore what wellness looks like. For some folks, that approach instantly feels like a homecoming: nothing could be more natural. Others tell me, “I don’t have a creative bone in my body!” And that’s okay, too. Creativity, in this context, isn’t about walking away from each session with a poem or a painting. It’s about experiencing the imagination, generativity, and sense of simple play that are inherent aspects of the human spirit.

I’ve been a theater artist since stumbling into acting class at the age of 10. I’ve performed a lot of Shakespeare, and I’ve played a vast hodgepodge of other roles, as well (both on stage and behind the scenes). As a bilingual dual citizen, I’ve even gotten to perform in French. Post-college, I found myself increasingly intrigued by drama therapy, which I ultimately pursued as part of my counseling program at Antioch University.

In terms of my practice, I focus a lot on identity exploration (including queer identities) and existential questions, along with symptoms of mood and anxiety. In addition, a specific passion is working with spiritual and religious concerns, ranging from spiritual abuse and trauma, to questioning a long-held faith, to converting to a new religious tradition.

I work with both adults and teens – whether they identify as artists or as anything but. In sessions, according to a client’s comfort and needs, we might do anything from sitting and talking to crafting, improvising, or moving around the space. There’s no single way that drama therapy needs to “look,” and I’m excited to discover what it means to each new client that I work with.

All the world’s a stage,
And all the people in it merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
Each person in their time plays many parts…

— William Shakespeare – paraphrase
